POST 08/150: PORTER (X2 POSTS)

  • SALARY: R131 265 per annum
  • CENTRE: Mowbray Maternity Hospital

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum educational qualification: Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in porter duties within a hospital or health environment.
  • Inherent job requirements:
    • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
    • Ability to lift and transfer patients from beds, trolleys, and wheelchairs, as well as in and out of vehicles.
    • Prepared to work in all hospital departments and wards.
    • Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence.

DUTIES:

  • Assist and transport patients via wheelchair, trolley, or bed from reception to wards, treatment sections, and ambulances.
  • Deliver and collect medical documentation (e.g., patient files, reports) between wards and treatment areas.
  • Transport specimens to laboratories while ensuring a safe and hygienic work environment.
  • Assist with checking and replacing medical gas in wards/treatment areas.
  • Move and transport medical equipment and report any defects.
  • Respond to ward/department requests and transport blood and blood products to/from the Blood Bank to Mowbray Maternity Hospital using GG transport.

  • CENTRE: Oral Health Centre – Tygerberg/Mitchell’s Plain Platform

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum educational qualification: Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in a stores environment.
  • Competencies (knowledge/skills):
    • Ability to work effectively in a team.
    • Ability to lift heavy boxes or bags.
    • Willingness to assist with stock-taking.

DUTIES:

  • Deliver stock to departments, theatres, and clinics in a cost-effective and safe manner.
  • Assist clerks with receiving, storing, and issuing stock.
  • Help move equipment (assets) when required.
  • Maintain an audit trail of deliveries.
  • Keep stores clean on a regular basis.
  • Perform any other ad-hoc duties as needed.
